The Graduate Program in Dentistry at the Federal University of Pará (PPGO-UFPA) (Code: 15001016039P6) was approved by the UFPA Institute of Health Sciences through process No. 009190/2003 and by CAPES as per of./CTC/nº 11 of 09/17/2003. The course was implemented in 2004 and initially recommended by CAPES at the Master's level, academic modality, with grade 3. The approval of the academic Doctorate in Dentistry was approved at the 180th CTC-ES Meeting with the opinion CNE/CES nº 943/2019, with grade 4. The Doctorate course began on 03/11/2019. At both levels, they are the first postgraduate courses in the field of dentistry in the Northern Region of Brazil.

Objectives (general and specific)

General: To train qualified human resources with a holistic and critical view for the development of activities in the field of teaching, research and extension, ensuring the standard of excellence in the training of masters and doctors and with broad integration between undergraduate and graduate programs. These pillars contribute to the strengthening, production and dissemination of technical-scientific knowledge in the dental field, aiming at promoting oral health in the Brazilian society with a focus on the Amazon region, its populations and resources.

Specific: 1. Create favorable conditions for the development of teaching, research and extension in dentistry in the Amazon region, contributing to the improvement of health indicators in the region; 2. Train independent researchers, capable of preparing and implementing innovative research projects, able to work in research, teaching and extension activities in Higher Education Institutions and Research Institutes; 3. To train active and critical teachers in undergraduate and graduate lato and stricto sensu courses with a view towards the Amazon, contributing to the development of society, through the training of professionals with the power to understand and act in the political context, national and global social and economic; 4. Promote the dissemination of the knowledge produced and encourage cooperation between researchers based on solid ethical and humanist principles.

Profile of the professional to be trained: professionals with solid scientific and humanist training, ability to critically analyze scientific evidence, independence, creativity, leadership and willingness to cooperate, with power of understanding and action in the regional and international context, able to work in institutions of Higher Education and Research Institutes, developing research and teaching activities at a high level of depth, with an eye turned to reality and Amazon issues. These researchers must have intellectual autonomy, develop original research projects, integrate and lead the formation of research groups, act in the formation of new researchers at all levels and present conditions to produce innovative scientific knowledge, covering Amazonian products and populations, and in extensive interaction with the international scientific community.
